"How can we bring this overview effect back to earth?"

The answer is not found by bringing anything back to earth (only a select few people have this opportunity anyway) but by experiencing what we have here on earth (all the things we find significant). Each of us has the power to create an "overview effect" by expanding our lens - visiting new places, trying new things, speaking to people unlike yourself, etc. While not a visual "overview effect" as you describe, we can all create one based on experience and understanding.
